13 Days Hiking And Gorilla Trekking

Trip highlights: 13 Days Hiking and Gorilla Trekking itinerary will take place in Uganda; arriving and departing via Entebbe International Airport. You will drive to Kasese town and start the hike the next day, together with porters and a cook you will hike the Mount of the moon till its peak Margherita doing the complete circuit. On the day you descend from the mountain you will proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park home to the Great Apes. You will trek the Mount. Gorillas a once in a lifetime experience.

Rwenzori Hiking and Gorilla Trekking Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival

After arriving Entebbe International Airport, you will clear with immigration, proceed to the arrivals where you will meet your driver guide who will transfer you to your hotel for overnight stay. 

Accommodation: Protea Hotel by Marriott Entebbe (high-end), The Boma Guest House (medium) or 2 Friends Entebbe (budget). Meal Plan: B

Day 2: Entebbe – Kasese

After breakfast at your hotel, start your journey to Kasese town.

Accommodation: Hotel Margherita (high-end and medium)

Day 3: Start Hike – Nyabitaba Hut

Drive to the starting point early in the morning to finalise with the different formalities.  Start hike from Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba hut. 

Accommodation: Nyabitaba hut

Day 4: Nyabitaba Hut – John Matte Hut

From Nyabitaba hike on passed Rivers Mubuku and Bujuku later Bamboo forest to John Matte hut.

Accommodation: John Matte hut

Day 5: John Matte Hut – Bujuku Hut

From John Matte descend to cross River Bujuku to Bujuku hut.

Accommodation: Bujuku hut

Day 6: Bujuku Hut – Elena Hut

Depart Bujuku through bog ascending to Scott Elliot Pass. Proceed to Elena hut.

Day 7: Elena Hut – Mount Stanley (Margherita Peak)

From Elena hut continue to the base Stanley Glacier. To reach the summit the hike takes approximately 5-7 hours. The walk takes you passed glaciers, ice, slippery rock. Descend passing Kitandara lakes to Kitandara hut.

Accommodation: Kitandara Hut

Day 8: Kitandara Hut – Guy Yeoman Hut

From Kitandara ascend up the headwall spreading out from the base of Mount. Baker along the southern side of the mountain to Fresh fields Pass. Hike on passing the rock shelter to Guy Yeoman. 

Day 9: Guy Yeoman Hut – Nyabitaba Hut

From Guy Yeoman descend the cliffs of Kichuchu through the muddy path which crosses River Mubuku twice before ascending to Nyabitaba hut. 

Day 10: Descend the Mountain – Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Descend from Nyabitaba to Nyakalengija. After lunch you will proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to the great apes the Mountain Gorillas.

Accommodation: Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp (high-end), Mantana Engagi Lodge (medium) or Buhoma Community Bandas (budget). Meal Plan: B, L & D

Day 11: Gorilla Trekking

After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters for briefing and thereafter go to the start points and enjoy the highlight of the safari. Trekking the Gorillas is a once in a lifetime experience which takes between 2–6 hours. Lunch, dinner and overnight stay at the Lodge.

Accommodation: Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp (high-end), Mantana Engagi Lodge (medium) or Buhoma Community Bandas (budget). Meal Plan: B, L & D

Day 12: Bwindi – Entebbe

Early breakfast and start your full day drive having picnic lunch en-route passing via Kampala. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 13: Departure

Drive to Entebbe International Airport to catch your departure flight. Meal Plan: B & L
