Trekking the Nkuringo Gorilla Family: Unveiling the History, Members, and Behavior
Within the South of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a magnificent gorilla sector known as Nkuringo, which is home to ten gorilla families, including the famous Nkuringo gorilla family. History of the Nkuringo Gorilla Family.
The Nkuringo gorilla family was once seen living in the undulating hills of Bwindi, where they were longtime beneficiaries of the crops owned by locals. A few farmers took revenge by murdering some of the family members, but the government and environmentalists viewed this as a bad move for the nation.
As a result, the government habituated the gorillas and provided them with a place to live and eat. When Bwindi Impenetrable National Park became operational, the animals continued to reside in Nkuringo, in the south, where they still do. The head of the Nkuringo family was Nkuringo, a powerful silverback who passed away in 2008. Two silverbacks, Rafiki and Safari, assumed leadership following his death.
After seven months, Safari continued to hold the position of sovereign leader. His rule was quite successful for the family. During it, Kwitonda, a female gorilla, gave birth to Muhoozi and Katungi ,the twins. However, Katungi did not survive to see his second birthday because of a severe illness.

The permits are purchased by foreign non-residents in Uganda at a fixed price of $800; foreign residents pay $700, the rest of African citizens pay $500 and East African nationals pay Uganda shillings 300,000. Permits for gorilla trekking are turned in to the authorities on the day of tracking. This occurs before the tourist is permitted into the jungle for an up-close encounter with the gentle giants.
