Tucked away in the magnificent Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is the amazing Bushasho Gorilla family in Nkuringo sector. It resides in one of the National Park’s four gorilla trekking sectors, Nkuringo Sector, is home to this thrilling family.

A brief History of Bushasho family.

When some members of the Bushasho group broke away from the larger Nkuringo group to form their own family, the Rangers of the park realised that some of these members were not habituated and would pose a serious risk to visitors. As a result, in 2012, the Rangers started extensive habituation procedures to guarantee that the group is open to adventure-seeking visitors.

They were named after the Bushasho areas of the forest, where this amiable family was first spotted. Up to this day, the Bushasho family feeds in the same spot, which is easily accessible.

There are eleven gorillas in the Bushasho group: four adult females, three babies, two semi-adult females, one silverback, and one blackback. How adventurous the trekking experience of the Bushasho gorilla family is.

From their cosy lodges in the park, the visitors awaken to a stunning view of a dense tropical rainforest at sunrise. After breakfast, proceed on a trekking experience with the mountain gorillas. The National Park Rangers deliver a briefing to inform the visitors of the rules governing the hike before the activities get underway. After that, tourists venture into the forest to search for the mountain gorillas in the wild.

Four to six hours is the average time for the trek, depending on the group’s mobility and meal schedule. Visitors on this adventurous trek will pass through dense vegetation, valleys and highlands. In addition, streams can be crossed shortly before they encounter the calm giants. Oftentimes, there’s no greater expression of joy on travellers’ faces than when they first see the gorilla family. They have leveled, non-slip terrain, little precipitation, and temperate temperatures that are ideal for hiking. In Uganda, there are two distinct dry seasons that is; a short one that typically lasts from December to February. The lengthy one on the other hand lasts from June to September.
