Singita Kwitonda Lodge, set right at the border of Volcanoes National Park in the Northern Province of Rwanda, home to about 35% of the World’s mountain gorilla population. Its unique and unequalled location makes it possible for visitors to connect to Kinigi Park Headquarters for their gorilla trekking experiences or any other Park activities like golden monkey tracking, Dian Fossey Gravesite Hike, Bird watching, forest walks and Volcano climbing among others.
Having operated iconic Eco-lodges and Safari Camps in the African Continent for over two decades, Singita ventured in the raw Rwandan accommodation sector. Kwitonda Lodge officially opened its doors to visitors on 1st August 2019 and the property presently sits on about 72 hectares (178 acres) of virgin lands along the edges of Volcanoes National Park. The Lodge was names after an iconic silverback- “Kwitonda” who was known for his gentle and humility.
This fancy Safari Lodge boasts of 8 exquisite suites, each featuring a private heated plunge pool- something you will not experience in other places in the country or even region, in and outdoor fireplaces for private unwinding and warmth, a wellness treatment area and most interestingly huge timber-framed windows that offer amazing sceneries as well as views of the Virunga Volcanoes. Besides the 8 phenomenal suites at this Lodge, there is also the Kataza House (a private-use Villa) with four airy suites.
There are 7 one-bedroom suites at Singita Kwitonda Lodge and can accommodate two visitors. These have out and indoor showers, dressing area, sitting area, indoor bath, mini-bar, hair dryers, covered patio, in and outdoor fireplace and a private heated plunge pool.
There is only one two-bedroom suite at Singita Kwitonda Lodge and is capable of accommodating up to four visitors with two similar bedrooms, each having an indoor bath, out and indoor shower, dressing room, in-room massage area, out and indoor fireplace, larger sitting area, hair dryers, private heated plunge pool and covered patio.
This four-bedroom suite can accommodate up to 8 visitors hence making it perfect for group or large families. It has an interactive kitchen, informal dining and living areas, covered patio, in and outdoor fireplaces, cinema room, fitness center, massage treatment area, hair dryers, small wine cellar, private heated plunge pools and others.
This Lodge embodies the hospitality spirit of Rwandans as well as the goodwill that sums up their amazing recovery from the painful past, especially with the 1994 genocide. Singita Kwitonda Lodge greatly contributes to the conservation, ecotourism as well as promotion of community partnerships and in honor of the country’s raw and fertile land, this Lodge is one of the most sustainable Lodges in the African Continent. It is comprised of small buildings that were laid out along the natural and untouched contours of the ground.
Stunning vegetation especially giant lobelias, bamboo, forest trees and ferns offer the perfect backdrop engulfing the structures, in addition to providing the perfect opportunity of reclaiming them back into the natural rainforest. The buildings are suspended on phenomenal stone walls that rise out of Volcanic boulders, yet the existence of green-roofed, stone-walled and organic cabin-structures as well as vast verandas provide a beautiful shape and texture that you won’t find in other places in the country.
The central building at Singita Kwitonda Lodge features indoor and outdoor living space, lounge area, an interactive kitchen, dining area, Wine cellar and bar area for visitors to enjoy. There is also a conservation room, a dedicated Gear room, the onsite Akarabo Nursery and Garden where fresh vegetables and ingredients are grown as well as tree seedlings, 24/7 electricity with 22V converters as well as the Boutique and Gallery cabinets among others.
